Fly Fishing Courses for 2013
Fly fishing courses are now in their ninth year at Lockwood Beck Trout Fishery. When we started them in 2002, we had no idea how popular they would become. A quick calculation suggests that we have introduced around eight hundred people to the sport. Lockwood is proud to be proactive in recruiting new anglers.
Despite their longevity, we have not become complacent; we have listened to attendees over the years and refined content and delivery. Feedback is very positive and we are aware of people travelling from all over the country in order to learn to fly fish at Lockwood. The courses remain very popular as birthday and Christmas presents.
We are determined to continue to offer coaching of the highest possible quality with an emphasis on learning essential skills in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere. We firmly believe that several factors contribute to our success:
We firmly believe that a qualified coach is essential...
...to ensure that good practice is established from the word go. As usual, Roger Beck will be delivering the courses at Lockwood. He has an enviable reputation as a fly fishing coach and is well known throughout the north of England. You may also know him through his monthly column in the Yorkshire Post or his demonstrations at the Great Yorkshire Show.
Top quality equipment will be provided for the courses
This is included within the course fee. Current, modern gear from prestigious manufacturers will be specially selected. The fly rods are specially chosen to help you to learn to cast effectively.
Courses are taught in groups of five
Over the years, we have learned that this is the optimum group size. It provides every opportunity for individual attention whilst allowing a genuine group dynamic to develop. Just occasionally there may be an extra person in the class; we will do this to accommodate family and friendship groups.
The course content is comprehensive
Both theory and practice are covered; you will learn the things that are not in the books or the videos. During the day you will:-
- Learn about fishing equipment and be advised on what to buy and what to avoid.
- Learn how to assemble equipment properly.
- Tie the essential knots.
- Be taught the essential fly casting skills.
- Learn the effective ways of fishing at Lockwood.
- Have the opportunity to fish through the evening at an award-winning fishery.
